Wellington, Saturday. A meeting of immigrants has been held hero with the object of petitioning the Government that the remaining deposit upon the promissory notes be remitted. Several of the speakers alleged that they were unable to obtain an interview with the A <*entGeneral in London, though they tried repeatedly ; and that they were led to believe that Government would not trouble them by recovering promissory notes unless they acquired propeil} r . The Gazette to-day notifies th.it the following Provincial Acts have been allowed by. the Governor: —Education Act, 1872, Amendment Act, 1874.' Provincial ordinances left to operation : Fencing Act, 1855, Amendment Act, 1874; Sheep Ac£ 1855, Amendment Act, 1874 ; Avapohue Eoads Act, 1874. Mr Isaacs, mayor, has been appointed a Justice of the Peace. His Excellency the. Governor has appointed Mr John MackrelJ, 21, Cimon street, London, solicitor in England to the New Zealand Government. Hokitika, Saturday. The Hon Mr Vogel's remarks / c provincialism have been favorably received by nine-tenths of the people on the West Coast. Tho lending papers congratulate Mr Vogel on throwing down the gaflntlet ,to so formidable an opponent as provincialftm. They advocate the abolition of the present kystom fin both islands.
