A petition is prepared and signed by nearly all the engineers nnd engine-drivers praying the House of Representative to insert a clause in the- new Bill which will tend to the prevention of mining and boiler accidents. They pray that the hours of labour for drivers should be limited to eight hours, and state that such a clause is actually necessary to prevent accidents, which often occur through the fatigue and exhnrustion of driveus consequent on the number of hours they work continuously.
