His Excellency has accepted the by Commodore G-oodenough, K.N., of his seat in the Executive Council of New Zealand. Dunedin, Thursday. In the Supreme Court, before Judge Chapman, a rule»m was obtained to, enter up judgment for the plaintiff in the case of Maccassey t. Bell, notwithstanding the verdict for the defendant on the grounds of the exclusion of evidence ,and misdirection. The rule ia made returnable for neit week. Tbatnes, Thursday. Tlie funeral of J. C. Pen-it, who was unfortunately killed on Tuesday in the United Pumping' Association shaft, took plate this afternoon, when npwards of 150 Volunteers from various companies were present, besides 150 civilians. The Naval Brigade band, to which company deceased belonged, escorted th© mournful prtfceSsipn. TM remains- were carried to Tararu cemetery on a gun carnage, and military honors accorded.
