PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. TUESDAY, JU NE 9.
Mr Sheehan in reply to a question put by Captain Peacocke, with reference to an advancq of £50 out of £500 promised by the late .Superintendent, to be expended on a road between Xlamilton and Tiou, said the present Government would bo willing to give £100 as against the contributions of settlers, lo bo expended upon workapprored by the Provincial Engineer, so whatever was done would bo of tho greatest benefit to the district. Mr Crisp e moved an address to tbo Superintendent, requesting him to place on supplementary Estimates £50, as an increase of salary of the Relieving Officer. The item, after some discussion, was agreed to. Mr Buckland moved tho adoption of the report of the Select Committee upon Toll-bars. Mr Reed moved, "That the Education Bill be re-com-mitted, for the purpose of inserting words la the. 37.th, clause, for the purpose of fixing tho exact time of the rate becoming due. The words were inserted. The Impounding Act Amendment Bill was read a second lime The object of the Bill is to give facilities to districts more than ten miles from a public pound to recover damages for cattle trespass. The Bill was considered in committee, and the Fencing clauses proposed to be considered with clauses of the Fencing Act. Tho Council resolved itself into Committee of Supply, and voted tho Thames Gaol Service, tho Harbour and Pilot Services, and tho Goldfields Pcuartments. Tho Maioro Road Bill was read a second time. Mr Carleton brought up the report of tho Grievance Committee. Tuo Couucil adjourned at half-past 11 o'clpck.
