INSPECTION OF CAVALRY CORPS.

The half-yearly inspection of the two Cavalry Corps took place at Cambridge on Saturday. Lieut. -Col. Lyon was the inspecting officer. The Cambridge Troop, under the command of Capt. Knncinian, iode two miles towards Te Awarautu in older to pay respect to the visiting corpson meeting, the two corps paid the usual honours. Ou ai riving mi Cambridge, the whole force inarched to a paddock belonging to Mr Reynolds, where they were put through several manoeuvres by Staff-Sergeant Fraser • the proceedings were shortened on account of the exceedingly heavy lain. Enough waa done, however, to prove that the corps are very well up in their drill, and it would be difhcult to turn out a better looking body of men. We notice also a great improvement in the horses since we last saw them on parade. The greatest credit is due to Sergeant Fraser for the degree of efficiency to which he has brought tlu. corps. There were 105 non-commissioned oHicers and troopers on the ground ; also the following oflicers :— Major Jackson, Capfc. Bmiciinan, Lieuts. Fisher (mun > flntheifoid, and Wcllioiell. \itcr the inspection the two toi ps lunchcl together m tin Luge loum attached

The horse racing wis very good ; the steeple-chase was very pluckily ridden, and considering the greasy state of the ground the pace was very good. A. p.iper hunt followed ; this was somewhat spoiled from the field having started too close on the heels of the hounds. Tho-e sports ars calculated to give the rising generation good pluck and noi vo to face any difficulties they may meet, whether in the field of war or hunting.
