THE LATE COLONEL R. H. MACGREGOR.

Colonel Eobert Henry Macgregor, whose mortal remains were conveyed to their last resting place ye»terday, and who died at the age of 54, joined Her Majesty's service- in the year 1841, when he was appointed to the 65th regiment. Mr Macgregor accompanied liis legiinent to New Zealand in 1846, and in a year or two aftei wards wss q»zetted Lieutenant and Adjutant. In 1851, Jlr Macgregor was ordered home to foun a four Company Depot, and in the f >llowinn year was gizetted Captain He armed m tin* colony for the second time in 1855, in command of a detachment. After Colonel Wyatts departure foi Wangamii, Captain Macgregor, in 1859, was left in tommand of the troops quartered at Napier; in 1801, he proceeded with his regiment to Tarannki, and signalised himself in one of the most trilliant affairs in the native war, then raging in that pro\ ince. On that occasion, 400 of the 40th regiment, who were then holding No. .'{ r< ilouLt, veie beseigcd by the enemy, under "Wheniu Kingi, and being obliged to Bound the bugle call for as-sistance, Captain Wacgrcgor was despatched from No 1 redoubt with 125 men.
