The Sv.rr.cy aiid Hants Times of the 22nd November says : — ' On Friday, the 14th mstiuit, Colonel Crumble, Quarfcer-moiter-Q-eneral at Aldershot, gave a nioit mtorosting and instructive lecturo at tho Farnham Young Man's Association, to (we are sorry to say) a small but appreciative audience, on ' New Zealand, and the war there.' The subjoct was a happy one, the gallant lecturer having been one of the combatants at the late war ; m addition to which he bad made himself thoroughly acquainted with the early history and rapid progress of the colony, which knowledge be imparted in a most concise aiid lucid manner. For the tbe bettor elucidation of the geography of the country, and for a clearer description of the battles fought, the gallant lecturer had drawn on a large soale maps of the divisions of tho olony, that of Auclcknd being beautifully executed in colours, with the progress of tho English forces clearly depicted, and the land annoxed by tho conquest clearly shown. The gallant lecturer spoke of Cook's landing on the lslanda, of their early settlement by emigrants, of the ultimate adoption of a representative) Grorernment, and of the decorum with which the business of the Two Houses is conducted. He stated that all the disputes and unhappy war 9 with the natives had arisen from misunderstanding as to the ownership of land ; and disputes which could be disposed of by a judge, hud thero to be settled by war. He admired the daring courage and the gallant patriotism oi thoae savages, and described how they had deiowded inch by inch those almost impregnable paha, refusiug quarter, and preferring certain death to yielding themselves as prisoners when they found their position untenable. Tho gallant lecturer considered that a great futuro was before the colony, and that it was frequently called the Great Britain of the South." — A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr S. Q. tilowman, juu., seconded by Mr Sampson, and gracefully tendered by the venerable chairman.
