Uhri&tobureh, Tuesday. At Rnkaia the southern opproaoh of the railway bridge was injured, but not enough to stop the traffic. At Eangitoto the north approach of tho bridge was carried away. A flood occurred at Waimakariri. last night. The town was badly flooded. A portion of the protective embankment was washed away ; also a portion of the railway line, causing a suspension of traffic until repairs are effected, Owing to telegraphic communication being stopped, there are np particulars of the damage t,o hand* but it is anticipated that stores in the fexwn a»d country are considerably injured. There is a flood in the Kaiapoi. The fresh in the Waimakariri higher than ever known before. It began to rise at noon, and continued till XI p.m. The railway line is. washed awiiy for about a mile and a-half between Changes, and the railway bridge over the Waimaiariri. The bridge, however, is undamaged. Tbe mails were brought up to-day on a trolly. All tho stores at Kaiapoi nlong the river side ore flooded. Two firms, had a lot of grain damaged. In the eastern, pact of the town the inhabitants had to be removed from the houses in boats last night. There was great difficulty in doing this, as the current was so strong. The water rose higher than the great flood of February, 1868. A deal of damage has been done to gross land, and many baad of cattle, sheep, and pigs have been drowned. Several stocks of grain have also been damaged on Grigg's land, and in Ohristohnrch busb. Tho inland portion of the town was a Kt(<le flooded. TUo north, embankment of the river was washed away. The damage done to gardens and furniture on that side was general. The flood was caused by tbe fresh meeting on the high tide and backing the water up. The polling for tho eleqtion of three out of five candidates to represent Heathcote in tho Provincial Council caused great interest. Mr Montgomery, President of the Executive Council, Mr Fisher, former member, Sir Cracroft Wilson, and X>v ITorater favored secular education ; Mr Stafford,' M.H.R., supported denominatkm^ism. Wellington, Tuesday. The agents of the mail-boats at Honolulu have written to oavthat the Mikado proceeded on her vojage at the hour originally fixed. She grounded on the sandbank to the leeward of the entrance of the harbour. The diver of H.M S. Toudors, Thomas Hardraan, inspected the bottom of the Mikado, and certified that ho found no damage whatever more than tho paint scratched, and was of opinion that no iisrm was done to the ship.

Invercargill, Tuesday. The sale of p&storal leases took place to-day. The different lots were eagerly competed for. Run 449, of 2000 acres, estimated to carry one thousand &beep, upset price £4 3a 4d, realised £1030 ; run 40, 500 acres, eslimtted to carry 450 sheep, upset price, £108 43, realised £460; run 452, 19,400 acres, estimated to carry 1500 sheep, upset price £40 6s 4d, realised £178 ; rnn 453, 19,500 acres, estimated to carry 700 sheep, upset price, £40 12s 6d, realised £67. The above is bonns for ten years, lease, the amount of rent being 7d for sheep and 3a 6d per head for cattle.
Blenheim, Tuesdaj. The Tuatnarina Hotel was burnt down at midnight. Tho eauso is attributed to flre having been left smouldering on the hearth. The total loss is £880, Hip landlord being owner of the house. It was insured for £450 in tho New Zealand Company's office. Tho population of Marlborougn is 6145, being an increase of 908 since 1871.
Dunedin, Tuesday. The Eesident Maj»isirate has requested the police to find out the names of all publicans who sell liquor upon Sundays, and he says that all who do so wili not get their licenses renewed. The gold sent to the Melbourne banks realised eighteen pence an ounce more than that obtained here.
