Coromatdfll, Saturday. A requisition is in course of signature tj Dr Hovell calling upon him to reconsider hi* de termination of resigning his appointment to the hospital and leaving the district as lw proposes. It is being numerously Bigned by all classes of the residents here who have the greatest faith in hit skill as a surgeon, and who acknowledge hit unvarying kiudnesi to every one brought in contact with him. A, testimonial is also being got up to present him with a purse of sovereigns or anything else the committee may deem advisable, in acknowledgment of the services rendered to the people in this district.
Napier, Saturday. Two members of tbc Napier Rifle Volunteer Corps have resigned, and giveu up their arms. Tenders are called for the erection of a bridge over Mohakfi Creek, on the Taupo Eoad. The Agricultural Society have bought five acres of land at their lust meeting, for the erection of buildiugs.
Wellington, Saturday. Tho directors of a Kew Zealand Stoani Shipping Company hate under their consideration tbe question of placing one of their fleet of steamers upon tbe Fiji and Auckland trado. The Company have applied to the Government for compensation for tho detoution of the Phoebe in quarantine at Ljtteltou, with immigrants, but the application has been refused. The s.B. Taranalci is detained until the arrival of the s.s. Mongol to-morrow, with the mails. The R«v J. S. Sraallcy, Wesleyan minister, was presented witb. a purse of fifty guineas and a handsomely bound Bible, as a farewell gift, on tho occasion of his removal to Napier. The presentation was made by the members of tho Young Men's Improvement Society. Tbe market quotations are : Jb'lour, £13 10s to £1 i- 10s ; wheat noue in the market ; oata, 5s 3d to 3s 6d ; maize, noue ; cheese, 7d to 8d ; butter, lOd per lb. Trade is generally very dull, and has been so for the last month.
