CENTRAL WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
Probably tho nipst successful Agricultural Show that lins 1 een held In the Waikato took placo on Thursday at Te Awamiitm From \eiy early morning LiJl tue LtteU hour sit which exhibits could be admitted to the ground clouds <>f dust foretold the arrival of something to show. Sornetimei animate, hut at others an ugl 7 looking reaper and mowt-r proved to be the disturber of the soil ; these things are doubtltjba exceedingly u&eful, but Co the uniuitiated eye Ihej eert.\inly are grotesque We arrived in the paddock het >*id« tor the show about 12 o'clock, and were conhiderably disappointed to find fhat the judges !iad only just commenced their onerous duties. To he fact that the yrif-ps not .awarded fill ao hte ;.n hour mn st be attributed many of the defect* in minor matters tbat will doubtless be found hy interested parties in the report of pro- ■ eedings that follows. Our ntlrntion wu fli*«t devoted to tlie *tnck of horsei, *>n»d tie can, without any hesitation, state tn»t tlie thuvr, in Th» roiptcfc, could scarcely bi> beaten in the colony. 1 The >ir»t on the list huh ' Heavy Deacght Hoiwbs. As was to be expected Mr KhkwnolN homes took the nrst rod .second prizes Campsie III in a magnificent horse, j hut in the opinion of 'some is deteriorated by the almost j universal characteristic oi his breed— white points Nugget has been »o long before the Waikato breeders that it would be nsoless to discuss hit merits All h»ivo their opinions on horse fltsh ; Nugget we heard given the first place by many who onght to ho judges, we are not of that opinion ; ; Nugget is undoubtedly a good horse, but his successor is a ' better. There w?t© three other cr>mperirors in this class ; 1 two however, were only colts, and the third was nowhere. The next on our list wan ! Hkaty Draught Bboop Makes. Tbw* were fire compctitorn for this prize. Mr Htmilron feoured the first wi»h bin very fin<» ?rpv mare. Blossom, and the wcond fe'l to Messrs J.'& K. Fisher. It is to bo noted tbnt both the prize mares in this nlas» are balf-sietera to Nugget. Theie were five entries for the prizes allotted to Heavy Draught Fillv, unukk 3 Vkak6. The first prize was awaided ro Mr Seceombe for one of tho piettiest animals we have ever «een a show ground. CATTLE. There were not a great number of entries of oattle. The qunlity, howerer, compensated to some ettent for the y>»\\citj in number*. The recent importation into fcle district of purebred Hereford* by Mr Clarke fro-a the W. da of Messrs McLean, added not n little to the mtereat in the exhibits. Considering the long drought, most of the cattle ihown were in ?ery passable condition. Shoethorn Bvz.Ii. The first prize in this clasi was taken by Mr Ramsay, and the second by Mr Taylor.
