TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION.
AY a 1 meeting of this Association held on Saturday, it w«i« resolved to discuss the following resolutions on that day three weeks. -"Tint the future appointment of tearhers to 'schools ttudpv the fio*rd shall be made by the B ard of Education subject to the approval of looal school committees. That thu Board shall littve power at of With' the consent of any teacher to remove or advance a teacher by change of ichooli." " That any coin pitrint agairist a teacher must b« made in writing to the teacher, and, if required, a ropy of the satoe forwarded through the chuivman or secret »ry of the locVl cummittee. 1 ' " That the remuneration ot teacheis shall bv fixed and paid by the Board, but tlmt the" nanir shall not depend Upon the average attendance of Mshol«s." "Th*t arrangement* be made for annual lo^il examinations to test tbe- emusney and progrim of c ich school, and that additional payments be made as rewards to tho nwt "micceisful teachers." "That it ii desiiable for the Boaid of Education to encourage the teaching elf extra subjects beyond til >se reqnired for common- tehoolt*, by offering to assist with n concerted system of paymeut by result*." That an in-.titute or association. of teachers bfc *tUblishtd by the Act, to repment the teaehe«« employed-irt-this Province, which ihall be allowed annually to elect and send a representative to form one of the "Board of Education." "That assistance be afforded the institute in the formation of a library for rpfere cc and study, classes for instruction, and meeting* for discussion." "That- the following clause respecting religioiib instruction in common schools should be inserted in the Education Act:— 'That uo religious ot r sectarian or denominational chnratfter shall be given during the ordlmrv sclinol hnurT, md the pupils shall not bo required to Jnad Irom any yeuion of the Scripture-., or .any catechism or any tfxt book- of religious belief;' "— " That this Association would suggest that the establishment and maintenance of schools and buildings in tlie - country should bs ensrusted to the District Highway Boards, and that city and sub--uiban educational districts should be invited to form school buards." "Tiat the foregoing resolutions be preseuted by a deputation with a re<p(ctful memorial to his Honor the Superintendent, asking that'th* Executive may cnnsider the same ih their pronosa's upon ctlucation for the ensuing session of the l'roviucial Council." Duriug the afternoon the following i teachers were elected members of the as»o jiation :— Miss Burnett, of the Collegiate school for ladies ; Mr C. A. Taylor, of tUe .Aiucklknd College; Mr Chilm.in, of Pukekohe; and Mr* Smith, of Auckland.
