(From our own Correspondent,) A oitNEBAL public meeting, conrened by advertisement, vu iicld at the Atoxaadra Hotel, oa-S*turda/ evening last, for the purpose of taking stops tci organise Christmas Races for tho Alaxandra district, when the following resolution* were carried i— That Mr E. K. Brown be appointed B«eratsr/ and Tr«a> aurer. . . .* ■ That tho following gentlemen be invited to act M the committee to carry out the arrangement* : Meun Wetherill und Bertram, Kangioahia; MoucrietF, Xihihihi; J. Roaoh,. Te Awamutu ; E. O. Boss, Harapipi ; J. D. Hill, and Ohitty, Alexandra ; James Thompson, Kopua. ; W. Higginson, and Montgomery, Paleraugi ; all empowered to receive subscriptions. That all subscriptions be paid in on or before Monday December Ist. That the races be held on the Race Course, Alexandra, on Friday, December 26th, (Boxing Day). There was a good deal of discus im as to when- the races shout ibe held. The above date was finally decided upon aa no other races or sport had beea aaranged to take place on that date as jet, so we hope that other CoinuiittMi will try and aroid clashing with our holiday. That the first Committee meeting be held at Alexandra on Saturday, Novumber Ist prox. That Captain Morrison be asked to act as ji\dge on the day of the races. That the following gentlemen be inrited to act m steward*, on the race course : — Major Mair, Captains Northcroft, and Tregear ; Messrs Henderson and K. Hill. That Mr P. Fistrucci be appointed Clerk of the Scales. Accepted. That Mr Walters bo invited to act as starter,. That Mr W, Higginson be appointed Clerk of the Course. Accepted. The subscription list, which has only been opened for «. short time, guaranteed the sum of £45. A vote of thanks to the chairmau, Mr T. Finch, concluded the- business of the meeting.
