To the Editor of the Waikato Times. Sir, — I see by your column* that aMr Byron. i» offering himself for a seat in the Provincial Council. Is it not timo he told us something of his political creed ? Waikato ha» had few favors from the Province. What is it going to do for us now ? or what are those who aspire to a seat going ia for ? Is it for us, or themselves ? The first thing wanted is & steamer aubsidif ed from Onehunga to Waikato Heads and Raglan- This is the first thing' we hare a right to, and. if the three Waikato representatives will b«nd together, and have sufficient intelligence to enforce their claim before the Council, they will g&t it. We have us much right to it w Kaipara. The ra&way to Onehunga will be opened in a few months ; I therefore calculate that a suitable steamer could conrey our goods to the Heads for one pound per ton,, including railway freight. The new boat of ScherflTs could convey them thence to any part of Waikato for another pound ; this would reduce our freight nearly forty per cent. I am of opinion that it would be economy on the part of the Province in keeping in repair the Great South Soad j for the heary traffic pissing over it must bo as muoh ar would subsidise a steamer. There are several minor matters I may refer to at a future time ; but a subsidised steamer in my judgment is the first desideratum for TT rrr WAIKATO. Upper Waikato^
