He ) ,is no less than 24 charges of drunkenness, four of petty larceny, and three under the Vagrancy Act recorded against him. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in Mount Eden gnol. A meeting of those interested in getting up sporU for Hamilton was held in the Koynl Hotel on Thursday, the sind inst, at 8 p.m. W. M. Hay, Esq., wm unanimously voted to the chair, and in n few remarks shewed the desirability of endeavouring to get sports up about Chriitmas or New Yev'ftime, and the following motion was carried nem ion . " That sports and races be held in Hamilton on a day to be determined by the committee to be appointed at this meeting." The following committee were then duly eleoted: Messrs Hay, Burke, Farrell, Cumming, Coleman, Coates, K. Harris, and McDonald. The committee, by a resolution were then empowered to confer with any other body interested in the promotion of sports and races in Hamilton, and to bind subscribers. Mr Burke was then appointed convener of committee, and a vote of thanks to the chairman brought proceedings to a close.
