In the Legislative Council to-day, in reply to Colonel Whitmoro, the Colonial Secretary said it was not likely that the Government, at suoh a late period of the Sei*ion, would pledge itself to introduce an income and propi-rty ta\ bill. That could be done next session. MrPharnzyn nioyed that the Government instruct the judge who sat in the Compensation Court, at Whanyanui, to make a final ordpr for the awtrds decreed by him. The parties had been kept out of the money ior six jears. — Colonel Whitinore and the Colonial Secretary opposed the motion, which was carried, The Licensing Bill and the Prison Bill were read a third time. The Extradition Bill, the Native Grantees Bill, and the Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill were read iv second time. Mr Sewell's motion in favor of a lighthouse at Cape \\ amhrow, Oamaru Roads, was carried by a majority of 12 to 9. Thursday. In the Legislative Council to-day, Mr Waterhouse nioyed that His Excellency the Governor be requested to ninle enquiries into the requirements of the law in the Civil Service, with a view to carrying out the provisions of the Civil Service Act, 1866. The motion was carried.
