CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Waieato Times. Sir,— ln the Southern Cross of the 28th June " Frontier Settler" writes : — " Up to the present time the real cause of Sullivan's murder has not been fmrly made pubho ;" and be further enlightens the public with his views on the subject, making rather too free with the names of Messrs Douglas and Waller, accusing them of being the cause of the present natiTe difficulty and of poor Sullivan's murder, also of having taken advantage of the Native Lands Court for their own selfish ends. He says, further, that Purukutu is the principal .owner of the land where the murder was committed. I may mention that the land in question was passed through tho Native Lands Court long before Messrs Douglas and Walker came to the province. Had Purukutu any interest in tho land (which, from all I can learn, he had not) , and had Messrs Douglas and Walker been here, even in this ense, I consider it would have been presumption on their part to interfere in behalf of Purukutu, seeing he had such an able friend in the vicinity as " Frontier Settler." However, as I consider " Frontier Settler" a myth, there being no Euoropean living within six or seven miles of the scene of the murder (along riflo range), I shall not enter further into tins matter. Yours, .ic., E. B. WaijlEK. Moanavale, July 7, 1873.
