CORRESPONDENCE.

[Wo do not necessarily endorse thj opinions expressed by our correspondents. J

To the Editor of the Waikato Timl>. Siii, — I observe in jour usue of Thursda) that a correspondent, writing from here, states, " that the Hauhaus were annoyed at being ordered out of this settlement one day last week." Considering that notices had been forwarded both to Kawhia and Aotea two days before, and posted in every store and hotel in the township, I am at a loss to account for their annoyance, inasmuch ad they must have been awaro w hen they left Aotea that they would not bo allowed in any settlement within Waikato district from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. He also itates fchit a meeting was held to petition the Government to send a detachment of A.C. into this town; and that " it is lamentable to ceo Hauhaus supplied with liquor until they are in an intoxicated state," &c. Tlic only reply I can make to these two statements id that he must have been attending the imaginary meeting, at tho conclusion of which, his nervous system wa« so overcome as to malte him fancy that ho saw a drunken Maori. I have lived in manj native distiicts, and positively state th.it drunkennesijamongst the aborigines is less here by 90 per cent, than in any other township in Waikato. Your correspondent has also got hold of tLe wrong end of the stick respecting Saturday's meeting. He must, I fear, have been in a \ cry confused state just about this period. Settlbh. Raglan, May 29, 1873.
