fTIHE object of the Company is to provide tegular anJ -*- speech Steam Coniin:uiication on the Waikato River; to supply a want so long and unhcrsally felt in the District. The Provisionnl Directors have ascertained tho opinion of the Waikato Setthra on the subject, and have been promised an almost unarimous support. As the name of the Compnny implies, it is tho intention to mnko it principally a settler's undertaking, a.id with that view, the Company is to be formed in £1 shares, so that all residents may be able to join, thereby securing to the Company the whole of the river traffic, and consequently, to themselves a remunerative investment. The Directors anticipate that the Shares will bo fully subscribed for, and operations commenced within six months, and that not more than 10s. per share will be callad up, satisfactory banking arrangements having been made. It is proposed to build a powerful steamer suitable far the requirements of the river, at an estimated cost of £500 C ; also several barges and Goods' Dep6ts. 2 Arrangements have been made for a supply of Coal at RALru's Mine, at tho rate of 10s. per ton, for a term of years The Waikato Flax Company are willing to run their steamer, now being built, in connectioa with the Company, or if desirable, amalgamate the suiuc with it. Tho Office of the Company is to be in Auckland, with a Manager in Waikato, under the direction of a Local Committee. Tho Provisional Directors to hold office for Six Months from date, when a General Meeting of Sharohohlei-3 will be called to elect a Directory. FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS at the Auckland College and G»ammar School will be competed for at Auckland in December next. Each Scholarship w ill b© tenable for two years and will entitle its Lolder to an allowance at the rate of £30 a-ycar, and to free tuition at the Grammar School. Tho competition for three of the Scholarships will bo coniined to the pupils of the District or Common Schools of the province. The eoui petition for tho remaining one will be open to all comers, subject to certain conditions. The names of those who intend to compete must be sent in to the Secretary not later than Ist November next. Candidates must not bo less than 12 years at that date, nor more than 16.
