The telegram from here greatly ovorrutod tbo powder affair. The five canoes with natives seen iv tho harbour, were four boats coming from an island with vegetable!, which came at night to save tho ilood tide. They ctune again last night, when I saw and conversed with the natives myself. The idea of the powder being stolen was first mooted by the townsfolk, and the authorities were quite justified in ordering its removal to a place of (safety. The settlers, with- few exceptions, are not at all alarmed.
