CENTRAL WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.

A "viEETtvc of the- members of the- übDve Society was held in tin* Volunteer il.ill, Te Aw unutu, on the 14th inst. The President, Mr W. Scott, occupied the chair, and explained that the object of the meeting was to pass the iccouul-t, and to decide whether the Society should merge into a General \V;ukato Association m connect tun with all the other settlements; and in t lie ewnl of continuing the Association as at present constituted, to elect new ofDcers and committee to carry on the busme.s for the ensuing year. I[e called on Mr Mandeno, the secretary, to read the financial statement of the Association.

Major Jackson proposed, and Mr F. R. Foster seconded, " That the accounts as read be passed." Carried unanimously. Major Jackson proposed " That the present Society should 4 ill continue to exist, but that in fcbe event of any other W.nkato Society bebig desirous of amalgamating, the president do call a general meeting of tho members to consider the proposition." Seconded by Mr Cowan and carried. Mr Henderson (proposed " That Mr Gubbins, the vicepresident, be elected president ibr the ensuing year. Mr Gubbins declined. Major Jackson, in rising, returned hi* thanks for the untiring energy of the president, \V. Scott, K-^j., unto whom it was mostly due the allUirs of the Sucii'ty were in such, a. flourishing condition, and the gri'ui iiucess of the iirst shovr. He trusted Mr Scott would reconsider his determination not to continue the oflioe which he hail so satisfactorily hold, but once more allow himself to be placed in nomination. H« felt sure after the experience they had gained, that by electing two vice-presidents, a great deal of the work which had been thrown on Mr Scott's shoulders in* getting up the last show would be diverted. Mr Scott briefly declined tho honom*. Mr Gubbins, the l.i f e vice-president, having also declined to be nomin.it ed for the office, a desultory conversation ensued, and at one time it looked as if the Society would fall to the ground f>r want of a president. A httle pressure having been brought to bear. Major Jackson, nominated by Mr Kay, seconded b) Mr Henderson, was -voted to the office. Messrs A. Kay and J. Henderson wore appointed vicepresident, and Mr Mandeno was unanimously appointed svi c ary and treasurer. Messrs W. Rutherford and F. Liny; wore appointed auditor*. The follow ing gentlemen named were then duly proposed ti the meeting, and appointed as a committee for this year, with power to add to their number : — Messrs H. Roche, J. Scott, E Hall, S. Westncy, S Steele, F Vickeiy, A Ramsay, T. Wet'ierell, F. R Foster, Williim Bruce, W. Taylor, jun.. A. MeMinn, and Alexander Shcrrett. It waa also agreed that the next show be held in March next. The Chairman then mentioned to the meeting that an account had been received from the Herald oflice, applying for the sum of £1 13 6d, of which the secretary had no kaowlodge. He asked the meeting to decide if the account shoull be paid. The secretary said lie had given no authority. Mr Henderson, seconded by Major Jackson, proposed, ' That the secretary ■write to the proprietor of the Herald for an explantion, and, if satisfactory, the amount to be paid." Carried. Major Jackson proposed a vote of thanks to the outgoing president, vice-presidents, and officers, who had formed the Society, and who, ln> was sorry to say, were leaving their duties; he spoke of himself when he said that one of them was in far less able hanls. No- doubt tho new officers would do their best, and he sincerely hoped that all would be as well deserving of the thanks of the members as those gentlemen who were now laeating. Seconded bj Mr Kay, and carried enthusiastically. Messrs Scott and Gubbins returned thanks.
