John Shea, an old soldier, residing at Otaliuhu, attempted suicide by cutting his throat whilst in a state of delirium tremens. The injury he sustained is said to bo slight. The opening of Ohinomuri has turned out to be a " sell." Hopiana repudiates the idea, and several miners who proceeded to the district had their swags seized and were turned back. George Shaw, who was lost in the Flat Bush at Parerengui, has been found. He was five days without food, and when discovered was nearly dead. Ho is now in a fair way of recovery. All the settlers of tho district turned out in •carch of him. Tho trial of the seamen for scuttling the ship Alaazar is being proceeded with.
