Redwood and "Walters sunultaneou Iv — from llr Redwood, statin;; that he had sold the mare to Mr Wallers ; and from Mr Walters, scratching her for tho Cup. A meeting of tho C.J.C> was held the next day to lmcstujati* the matter. The meeting, which twia largely attended, unanimously agreed that the following facto we're dourly proved, viz. : That Mr Walters, in confederation with certain book-makers who had their books firll aga nit Peeress, lind purchased and afterwards scratched the mtue, in. accordance v ith u pre-arranged scheme for mulcting tlio public ; that the mare was perlectly well and fit at the time. She was not scratched until tho public suspected the confederacy and refused to put more money on her, and that between the puHiase and its being allowed to transpire tho confederates had expend od freely against her. The CJ C. has no special rule against scratching a hone within -18 hours of the time for starting for a race, and th it time was mentioned in the resolution simply as a matter of detail. The C.T C , after a rewew of all the circumstances of the case, concluded that the only way of punishing all the guilty parties, and protecting the public from such swi"rtln -j t for the future, wa* by adopting the cour>» they took, via , by disqualifying tho mare. The CJ C. is not awaro that any precedent ousts for the action they have taken in this case, but the club have resolved (either with procodent or without) te stop, with a firm hand, all fradulcnt practices on the Canterbury turf
