I have always understood thnttlie grr.ntwas in propqrtion to the rates collected in any district during tiro pwceding yaar ; and knowing that the, Ne^c.i«tla district is a very larg* one this grant seems vprv small. I, should feel much obliged if somo mrmbnr of the Board would kindly, through yotjr columns, supply the ratepayers with the answers to' the followius n.ue*tion«, as they may in some measure help us to understand our position :—: — 1. How many acres dcfja the Newcastle Jffigla way District contain 9 'J. On liqw many acres i$ no rate collected, as belonging to Government 9 3.
