The lowest tender -that of Mr J. Wright— £ls,2G9, or £7,087 less if the (Joverninenl supplied the sleepers, which it is intended to do, was accepted. The tender of Messrs Calder and Blackwood for I*o,ooo sleepers delitered at Ljttelton, at 3s 4 id ; also that of MiBruce, for 20,000 delivered at Tiniaru, at 3s Od vpre accepted. Brogden's tendon for the MocraLi and Waitaki line must be lodged in 14 day*. Tho liiMt mooting of flic Rifle Association -was held to-day, and M!H highly successful Shares to tho i-\lent af £21,000 haro been subscribed, for the new Titanic Sleel and Iron Company. Saturday. A strong memorandum has been sent by the Orinerninmt to the* Agent-General in London complaining of the dolay in shipping railway material. Some orders sent in IS7I are not jet oxecuted. Saturday. His Excellency tlie Governor has left Queenstown. Liyly Bewcn is better, and accompanies him overland to Qhi'istchurclf. The QueonBto\vn Races lasted two days. The Grand Stand Stakes, Quoeiutown Handicap, Hurdle Digger Handicap, and the Publicans' Purse- were won .by Atlas; and the Wakatip Handicap by Taffrail. At the East Taieri Volunteer competition for representatives, the two Christies failed to make the required minimum — 70 points. Arrived: Flodden, from Foocliow, with 48 tons for Christcuurcli. 136 tons for "Wellington, and 1 12 tons for Duncdui.
Cliristchurch, Fridny. Brcadstuffs are inactive. Millers and merchants are awinti9u new crop?, and further English nnd Australian advices. Exporters offer 4s for wheat, but furmcrs •willnot accept this if tonnage to England is procurable. Flour is lower owing to harvest, £12 10s to £13 10s ; oats, 2s per bushel. Good barley is wanted at 5s 3d. There is a prospect of a rise in butter which is quoted at s£d to Gd. Holders ask 6id. Cheese 5d to s£d ; hams and bacon, from 8d to Bid.
