SPECIMENS OF GOLD FROM TAUPO.
The following letter and report have been kindly handed to us {Napier Telegraph) for publication :— Colonial Museum, Wellington, Doc. 18. Sir,— l have the honour by directions of Dr Hector, in his absence, to forward the enclosed report by Mr Skey, on the specimens forwarded with your note of December i, at the request of Mr 11. S. Tiffen. I have the honour to bo sir, your obedient servant, A. M. BoTUAJiLEr. Gr. T. Fannin, Esq , Napier.
Lab. No. 1303— Various mixed specimens of gold. Locality — Tubua, near Lake Taupo. From — Mr Tannin. Received — 9th December, 1872. Eoported on — 13th December, 1872. These were separable into three kinds of stone as stated beW, each of which was separately analysed w ith the following results : — Variety of rock, quartz, lldwts 6grs ; quality of gold, medium. Variety of rook, Pyritous slate, Bdwts ; inferior to the above. Variety of rock, Cherty slate, Pu'itous, Bdwtsagrs; inferior. These specimons wero received by me from Mr Blanc of Tapuaedaruru. q
