CORRESPONDENCE.

[We do not necessarily endorse the opinions expressed by our correspondents.] To the Editor of the Waikato Times. Sie,—ln your issue of the 11th instant.. I read, frith much pleasure, an article calling attention to the very unsatisfactory state of the road from Alexandra to Ngaruawahia. At the commencement you say you are unable to account for the road being, as vet, uniinished, and at the close you say you are not aware on whom the blame should rest. I think the letter of Major Wilson, Chairman of the Newcastle District Board, published on the 19th inst, is sufficient answer to these two questions. Your trencUant strictures on tiie Government for neglecting so necessary a road are none too strong, as it must neecssarily retard the advancement of a very important port of the Wa.kato District: and such a • policy is in contravention of the larger seheme of settling the country by immigration, by virtue of which they are supposed to hold oifice. The neglect of the whole Waipn district by the Government has been so systematic rtud continuous, that in trying to find a veasoa for it, one is forced to look at it in connection with the avowed intention of returning the confiscated lands'to the maories. and to conclude that one is cmly intended to facilitate the ether by discouraging settlement and so lessening opposition. It is to be hoped that a continuous agitation on this subject will be kept up, in order that the Government may see that it cannot be much longer ignored, and that the just demands of this part of the Waikato district may receive : the attention it deserve?. i | I am, Sir, I Your obedient servant, ! _ Hekky Brso^. ! Te Kowhai, Xgaruawahia, December 27th. 1872.
