INQUEST.
An inquest wm hold at Ngaruawahia, on Tuesday aftfITBOOB, by B. 0. Boale, Esq., coroner, on tlio body of John Wilson, who, it will bo remembered, died on, Monday night from the effects of injuries received by the overturning of a dray- lie following were, sworn ae a juryC. Bell (foreman), H. Newell H. Ziegler, J. Onion, J. Gifftiey, H- Lewis, T. Fawcett, II- W. Hubert, Robert Henry, James Frowitt, i James Chadwick,.and J amen Rehill. The jury having viewed J the bodv, the coroner proceeded to take evidence. Johniloore being sworn, deposed: I ant a settler residing at Whata "Whata. About 5 o'clock on Monday afternoon deceased was with me in a dray at Ngaruawahia, Archibald Ferguson was also with me. I got on to the dray with deceased at Mr Harris' public house. Deceased drove; he started at a sharp pace, I remonstrated with him-, lie did not puil up, but urged the horses to a gallop. We had not gone 100 vards when the wheel' of the dray struck a side cutting, which resulted 1 in an upset. The deceased, when I next saw him, was fring under it, tho- guard rail resting across his shoulders. He had' hjs face downwards. Tho boy 1' erguson and I lifted tho dray as well as we were able, but could no ect the man out till assistance- came. Doccased was perfectly still, he did not speak. He was ia a short time removed to the hospital. He appeared to have been drinking some, but was not what I consider drunk. Archibald Ferguson,, a boy of twelve years of ago, was called, and gave evidence coincident with that ot the lirst witness. , , ~ Several other witnesses were called who, however, could onlv describe events after the accident had occurred. The jury returned the following verdict: —" That tho said deceased John Wilson'diol on the 16th Deccmbor, 1872, nt Ngaruawahia, Waikato, from injuries sustained by the accidental overturning of "a dray." • n The unfortunate man was buried the same-evening. Constable L'Estrango road the burial service ovor hini„ there being rid clergyman procurable at so short a notice.
