At a special meeting of the City Council a motion was passed protesting asrainstthe contemplated transfer of Police to Provincial Govern writ. The resolution is to be forwarded to General Government. The Provincial Council will be opened on the 19th November. Wellington. Arrived —Malay, from London ; passage, 99 days. She was in company with the Queen Bee, bound for Auckland, on the 24th July. Port Chalmers. Arrived —Harriett Arinitage, with, immigrants. Sydney news to the 17th. ' Fictitious Bank Notes are in circulation in the Hunter District. A man named Grey has arrested on the charge of having eome in his possession.
