The strong language of various honourable members in attacking Lahman is much deprecated. Napier, Friday. Halcombe has returned from the Seventy-mile Bush. The Scandanarians have encamped at tin , nearest settlement, and been placed in possession of their sections. They express great satisfaction with their prospects. Newton stands for the seat in the Provincial Council for the town of Napier, vacated by Colenso. At the nomination yesterday, Atkinson was proposed and seconded by GHedhill and Brown, and Moorhouse by Syme and Upjohn. Atkinson, in his speech, referred to what he had done for the settlers in getting them compensation. He abused the " Taranati Herald," and said he would go down an independent member. He read an extract from Reeves' speech to show that the late Grovernment were convicted of jobbery. He said he would have voted to have the late Grovernment turned out of office. He pledged himself not to join the Stafford Ministry.—Moorhouse distinctly stated that he should vote with the Opposition to turn the present Ministry out of office. He was in favour of the unity of the colony and the seat of Grovernment at Wellington. The show of hands was : —For Moorhouse, 24 ; Atkinson, 15.
