About 5 o'clock yesterday evening the punt at Ngaruawaliia started on a trip do'WTi tlie river, tlie only persons on board being the punt boy, an elderly gentleman, and a horse. This event has long been anticipated, the line having been in a most disgraceful state for some time past. Fortunately a new punt is under consideration, so that to cross at this place will shortly be without the risk of taking involuntary excursions similar to the above. The mails for England, America, &e., will close in Auckland on the 11th inst. Letters and newspapers must be posted in the Waikato in time to be carried to Auckland by the coach leaving Hamilton on Tuesday morning, the 9th inst.
