THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.

The Governor, accompanied by Major Campbell and Capt. Machell, A.D.C., arrived at Ngaruawahia on Monday evening the 17th inst., and continued his journey towards Auckland on the following day. We understand:that His Excellency has expressed himself .much gratified by the progress made in the Waikato since his last visit in 1870, especially in the extension of cultivation. Large areas, which two years ago .were still in a wild state, are now enclosed and under grass or grain crops, and substantial homesteads and farm buildings have arisen on every side. The Governor also expressed much gratification at the courtesy and respect everywhere shown him by the settlers, who were very, glad to welcome him to their farms and to reserve the shooting for him. _ Hii» ■ Excellency, in fact, really saw more of our district and its inhabitants oh this occasion than if he had been travelling through .it in an official manner and holding ceremonious receptions., • We learn thia'fcf tiger h^ v £%l pheasants and thil'ty . ferkce-6f -wild •ducks- during their-eight days'sport.in-the Waikato. The game was chiefly distributed among the settlers on whose land it was killed. It har often been remarked that the good sport procurable in New Zealand should be an additional recommendation to this colony in the eyes of English emigrants of capital and position.
