TRAIN-WRECKER AT WORK.
INTERFERENCE AT TERRACE END PALMERSTON, N., To.-day. After ten months’ freedom from interference, the railway line at Terrace End was again made the subject of some despicable work on Saturday night, when a wooden sleeper was placed across the Wanganui line, at the Fitzroy Street crossing. The train that ran into the obstruction was a goods, frm Marton, which is due at Palmerston North at 10.45 o’clock, but which was runnning slightly late. On feeling the bump, the engine driver at once applied the brakes. Examination showed that the cowcatcher of the engine was extensively buckled, a portion being stove-in. After a delay of- about 30 minutes, the train came to town slowly, reaching Palmerston North at 11.45 o’clock.
