GUILTY OF BIGAMY.
MAORI SENTENCED.
(Per Press Association.) ■ , WANGANUI, To-day. Hori Turin was found guilty of bigamy, and ordered by Judge McGregor to come up for sentence if called on within two years. He was also ordered .to pay £2O towards the costs of the prosecution. His Honour issued a warning to the Maoris generally regarding bigamous marriages. Accused had - eej.dently been influenced by some' other person to go through a second form of marriage. It had been suggested that Ratana’s followers, up the river, had been advising the Maoris that the onlj proper form of marriage was through their church. Such advice was entirely •wrong, and such persons were liable to bo brought up for punishment. FATAL MOTOR CRASH. WOMAN KILLED. (Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, To-day. A fatal motor accident. occurred at the Ninety Mile Beach races yesterday afternoon. .Mrs Elizabeth Spender, wife of Paul Spender, garage proprietor at Rawene, was killed instantly. Herbert H. Fitzherbert sustained minor injuries and shock; Victor F. Eisenhurt, severe injuries about the head; Reginald Molloy, severe injuries to the head and knees, and general shock; George W. Moore, left arm broken, severe cuts and bruises. While making a sharp turn, the car, driven by Fitzherbert, with Mrs Spender, was crashed into by a car owned by Eisenhurt, of Kaikohc, containing himself and Molloy, of Kaikote, and George Moore, of Ahipara. They were taken to the Mongpnui Hospital, unconscious. Fitzherbert is' progressing favourably in the Hokianga Hospital, but still suffers from shock. Both cars wore reduced to matchgood.
