DISASTROUS FIRES.
SHOPS AT SHANNON. LEVIN, To-day. A large block of three shops was destroyed by fire in Shannon early this morning, one being occupied by Aitcheson and Son (grocers), another by G. C. Young (cycle shop), and the third being vacant. The block was owned by H. Hook, and the building and stocks arc a total loss. At one time there seemcd’.a danger of the fire spreading, and the Levin Brigade was telephoned for, there being no brigade in Shannon. A detachment from the former went out 12 miles to the scene, by car, and checked the spread of the flames. , The insurances arc not available. BUSINESS PREMISES DESTROYED. RANGATAUA, To-day. Seven -business premises were destroyed by fire in Rangataua, on. the Main Trunk, early this morning. The unknown. ......
