COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIPAWA COUNTY. . . COUNCIL MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held on Monday. Present: Crs A. Robottom. ..(in the chair), J. Butler, N .Paulsen, L. Glenny, J. A. Kerr, and C. Thomsen. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. The Council’s Health Officer is to be asked to advise if a clean-up is necessary as a precaution against influenza. The Patangata County Council wrote regarding the highway on the boundary, stating the position as their engineer understood it. —It was decided that the Council state that it is- satisfied as to the respective liabilities as set out by the Patangata Council’s Engineer. The H.B. Motor Co. explained the action of its driver in ignoring traffic signals, and apologising. —No action is to be taken. The chairman of No. ,5 District Highways Council, forwarding the schedule of motor registration for the Dominion. Of the grand total of 155,325, 10,673 had been registered in the No. 5 district. —Received.

The H.B. County Council forwarded the apportionment of the Traffic Inspector’s expenses. Of the total for salary and expenses (£186), the sum of £27 17/6 was due from the Waipawa Council. —Amount passed for payment. It was suggested that an arrangement should be made for a conveyance for the inspector. The opinion also to be submitted that the inspector should not be employed outside his district. The Waipawa High School Committee asked for a grant for the Dental Clinic. —Consideration* deferred until the next meeting. In the meantime the Minister be written to direct, aasking him to appoint a resident nurse to the Waipawa Clinic, for the benefit of the county children. N. P. Ford, Tikokino. applied for permission to instal-a bowser. —Granted on the usual conditions. VARIOUS REPORTS. The telephone linesman reported on routine work for the month. It was decided, to instruct him to make a special inspection of the Tikokino line, for faults. Following on the reading of tlic Engineer’s report, work was approved in the ridings as Takapau. —Corner at Morton’s to bo banked up to conserve the metal. This practice to be adopted throughout the effunty. Aorangi Road to be attended to as soon as possible. Clinton. —Grant to be applied for, for the rebuilding of Bcrgerscn’s bridge, now posted as dangerous for traffic. Crs Thomsen and Paulsen and the Engineer to inspect the site for the droving paddock at Mangatewai bridge, under offer to the Council, and to deal with the matter. Onga Onga. —The road from Blackburn School towards Hincrua to receive 100 yards of patching metal. Metalling for the Blackburn Road past Kay’s to be considered when preparing the estimate for next year. The. Engineer’s, action in placing 40 yards of metal on Lookout Road was approved. Waipawa Riding. —The matter of widening and culverting 40 chains of the main road at JLukehou to be considered water. Corkscrew Gully deviation will be completed this month. Hampden. —The motor bridge on the Tikoflino Road to be repaired. Enquiry to bo made as to who did the damage to the railing. The Council to warn lorry owners that 'the Gwavas motor bridge must not be used for heavy traffic. Planking on t this bridge to be re-spiked. Willows at the Mangaonuku and Brow bridges to be dealt with/ r ’ i Ruataniwha. —Two miles of tar-scal-ing of the Waipawa-Waipukurau main road to be completed this month. GENERAL MATTERS. The following tenders were accepted: —7OO yards metal for Brow Road, G. Forbes; 250 yards metal for ArgyllOtane Road, Cooper Bros.; 250 yaids for Makarctu-Tuki Tuki Road, G. Forbes. A flrst-aid outfit is to be procured for use at the Council’s crushing plant. A deputation is to wait on the Postmaster at Waipawa, and his notice is to be drawn to the breaks of unsatisfactory service given by the Exchange, often occurring. A paysheet of £2868 12/2 General Account, and £678«: 0/4 Loan Account, was passed for payment.
