NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.
PRESS APPOINTMENTS. Mr F. W. Doidge, a director of tlie Beaverbrook Press, has recently taken over the position of assistant general manager and driector of advertising on London’s premier evening paper, the “Evening Standard” —one of the Beaverbrook group, states “The British Australian and New Zealander,” of recent date. Since Mr Doidge became associated with the “Evening Standard,” two events of interest to Australians and New Zealanders have occurred. Mr David Low, the famous cartoonist, has signed a contract with the “Evening Standard,” at a figure which probably constitutes a world’s record for the engagement" of a political cartoonist. It far exceeds the salary which Now Zealand pays its Prime Minister. The “ Evening Standard” has also secured for publication early in the New Year a now novel By Miss Rosemary Rees. The “Evening Standard” prides itself on the names bf its serial writers. A story by Arnold Bennett has just been concluded in its columns, and Miss Rees’ novel will be followed by one from the pen of Sheila Kay Smith.
Mr Low and Miss Rees are, of course, New Zealanders; so is Mr Doidge.
