FOUR THOUSAND IN A RACE

*”11 relay race of .1092 miles is being organised, in America to be run in July next. No fewer than 14000 competitors arc contesting for 4000 places. The race will start from New York City Hall, and by a circuitous route will reach the Chicago City Hall, where the last runner will hand to the mayor a torch and a.letter from the New York mayor. The runners will have to cross rivers and lakes.

There are no prizes, except the groat effort to beat the record of a similiar race run in 1908, which took 116 hours 50 minutes, and 30 seconds.
