The residents of Waipukurau are to be felicitated upon having 1 in their midst a body of young men possessed of the energy and independent spirit displayed by the members of the Brass Band. Some time back a deputation from the band waited upon the Town Board and obtained the promise of a site for a band-i oom and a donation of £lO towards the cost of material, the deputation mentioning that the bandsmen were prepared to erect the building themselves. Events show that the members of the band have been as g’ood as their word, for last night the first practice was held in the new room. The building is not complete yet, but the work already done reflects great credit on those responsible for it. The room is well suited for its purpose, being lofty and of sufficient size for a large band to assemble. The bandsmen are to be congratulated also on the progress they are making in their playing. Those who have recently joined are showing steady improvement, and the band is becoming much better x ' -
balanced. The services of the bandsmen, no doubt, will be m constant demand for entertainments and sports gatherings, and many pleasant evenings during the coming summer will be provided for the townsfolk, who, we are > sure, will accord a hearty support to the band in return.
