The Press. Published Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tuesday, September 22, 1908. RUSSELL PARK.

The Clerk to the Town Board, by an advertisement in this issue, invites the residents to form a working kee on Saturday to remove stones from Bussell Park. As we remarked in our last issue a wonderful improvement has ” been effected in the appearance of the park lately by levelling and harrowing, and already some of it has been sown with grass-seed. But there are a great many loose stones lying on the surface, and these require to be removed before the ground is rolled. To employ men to remove them would prove expensive, and as it is not heavy w’ork, even children could give great assistance. As the laying-out of the park is a work calculated to benefit the whole town, and not one particular section of it only, it is to be hoped residents will display practical interest in it by attending in strong force, and bringing their gardenrakes with them. A recreation ground has been greatly needed in Waipukurau—a place where the youth of the town could have their outdoor games, where children could play in safety, and those of /maturer

growth could stroll or sit in com fort. We are glad to learn that a gentleman has been generous enough to give three bundled trees and shrubs for planting round the park, so that if the season proves a favourable one the place should be a very beautiful spot, indeed, shortly. We believe that some people will be surprised when they get on to the park to find how largo the area is which has been levelled and sown. It is quite laige enough for a foot■ball or hockey match, and still leave plenty of space for spectatois and promenaders. And in a little avhile the area will be greatly in-* creased, for levelling work is still going on. The Town Board, we hope, will soon bo in a position to authorise the removal or burial of the unsightly heaps of tins and other rubbish at present so much in evidence.
