A COMPLAINT.
(to the editor.) Sir. —l wish to draw the attention of the public to the apparent apathy on the part of some local tradesmen to cater for the wants of country customers. The complaints are becoming so general that if we have no improvement at once our trade must go to the adjoining township, a step we will regret. It is our wish to confine our trade to local men, but when these men decide to sit down and let it go past them we have no other choice. Some six years ago Waipukurau tradesmen decided the trade of the forty families on Haturna was not worth catering for and let the baking and butchering business fall into the hands of Takapau men. Matters seem to be getting even worse now, and last Saturday some country customers requiring provisions had to go empty away. I hope when Waipukurau people see farmers spending their money in the adjoining town they will understand that every effort has first been made to spend it locally and that they are not to blame.— I am, etc., Half-starved.
