The map of the town of Waipukurau shows that provision has been macle for a stock road. The road has been laid off along the river-bed, and under the traffic and railway bridges, so that cattle might be driven to and from the sale-yards without going through the mam streets. Unfortunately the road has not been opened up, so that on sale day, and also the day preceding and the one following mobs of cattle and, sheep are almost continually passing along the main thoroughfares, frequently causing a good deal of delay to other traffic. Stock cut up the surfaces of the roads very badly, too, making them either very muddy or very dusty, according to the weather conditions prevailing. We don’t know what has caused the opening up of the road to be delayed, but it is' quite
time the work was attended to. It should not prove an expensive undertaking, and it would be a great benefit not only to the townspeople, but to drovers. The thoroughfare at present being used as a stock -> road is far too narrow, and where it intersects Russell street is a particularly awkward point to get timid cattle past.' _We hope the permanent stock road once be made available for the purpose for which it was intended.
