FIRE BRIG ADE v. WAIPAWA
L BY
What was considered to be the match of the season was played at Waipawa yesterday between the two local teams. The game in the first spell was of a very fast nature, Waipawa scoring two goals to Fire Brigade’s nil. In the second spell the Fire Brigade made strong efforts to score, but their efforts were unrewarded. On the day’s play Waipawa were without doubt the better team, having more combination, and each member keeping his position better. The losers’ forwards did not display the dash and combination that were characteristic of them at the commencement of the season. I must congratulate the Waipawa United on again winning the Wright Cup. The team all through the season has played its games without a loss, and it is without doubt the most consistent team in The competition. For the winners, Wilson at forward played his usual solid game, McKay also being prominent in all Of the Waipawa backs, ”■ Hunt" was tlie'~Tight-4Han„ in Jdie right place and was on the dayV play the mainstay of the team. For the losers, Wells and J. Ferguson were the most prominent in the forwards. Collett spoiled by bad passing what might have been a good display. Lyons at centre half had too much to do, but he gave a good account of himself.
The Waipukurau team visits Waipawa next Wednesday and plays the Fire Brigade team. This should be a good game. The ladies’ probable match takes place on the same day.
