PRESENTATIONS.
Yesterday afternoon a number of the parents and children attending the local school assembled to witness a presentation to Mr R. Florance, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. The present, which took the form of a pretty plated tea-pot, cream jug and sugar basin, was subscribed for by the children and teachers of the school. The children were all gathered in the senior class room when Mr C. J. Cooke, the headmaster, after making an appropriate speech, called upon Lily Jones to make the presentation. Mr Florance expressed his deep gratefulness for the gift. He was heartily cheered and also his future wife. Three cheers were also given for Mr Cooke, and the school dismissed. In the evening Mr Florance was entertained by bis fellow-boarders at Mrs Jamieson’s, and a programme of musical items was gone through. Mr Staines rendered phonographic selections and the following also contributed to the evening’s entertainment: —Solos, Messrs. Cain, Florance, J. Lloyd, Jemison, W. Howard and Cox; duets, Messrs Jemison and Florance 1 and J. "Lloyd and Florance. Instrumental duets were also given by Messrs. Valpy and Bunard (mouth-organ and bones), and a trombone solo by Mr Greenwood. During the evening MrCain, at the conclusion of a speech in which he referred to the many good qualities of the guest of the evening, handed to Mr Florance, on behalf of the house, a signed receipt of the value of £2 8s for eight chairs. A hearty vote of thanks was passed by acclamation to Mrs Jamieson (the hostess) for the sumptuous supper provided.
