The Press. Published Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Saturday, August 29, 1908. IMPROVING THE TOWN.

Great improvement lias been macle in Russell Park and its surroundings during the past couple of months. The Town Board let a contract for levelling part of the park, and the work appears to have been thoroughly w r ell done, giving promise of much needed room for recreation purposes in the near future. The members of the Bowling Club too, have expended time and money in the preparation of their green, thus further improving the outlook from the traffic bridge. But there is a great blot on the landscape in the shape of a heap of tins and rubbish in the park. It is to be hoped that this eyesore will speedily be removed. • We would suggest also that sonietbnag might be done before the season is too far advanced in the 'of planting some suitable shrubs that wnnld n.-ffnrd shade and shAfl+a-n in

visitors to the park. There are other parts of the town which might with advantage be given 1 attention, both for the sake of appearance and the health of the community. The question of the provision of water and drainage for the town Will be placed before the ratepayers shortly and we hope they will give the matter careful consideration, for assuredly both arc very necessary. The work may seem a somewhat costly undertaking, but we are sure it would amply repay the townspeople for increase it might entail in tne rates, and in the event of a dry summer, such as the last one proved to be, the water supply .scheme might be a source of ■economy. The-town is growing quickly, and water and drainage > ■will have to be supplied before long, and it appears to us that a policy of delay would be a mistaken one to pursue, ana might > prove dangerous to the healtn of .the residents.
