TOWN IMPROVEMENTS
5? The building erected by Mr J. Winlove for Mr Simpson is now almost completed, and, with the two new shops next to it, greatly improves the appearance of that part of the main street. Mr Simpson moved his stock into the new premises yesterday. The shop is conveniently ■ fitted with shelving'and has a fine large show window. To the right-hand side of the shop on entering is the hairdressing saloon, a bright, comfortable room, also fitted with a large show window. The billiard saloon, entrance to which is gained by a coloured glass door from the shop, is a very handsome room. It has a cove ceiling, decorated in flatted white, with oiled battens and margin. The walls are covered with pretty green paper, with linoleum dado, and finished with pressed dado moulding. A railed platform runs along the sides of the saloon, with seats for spectators. The billiard table has been repaired by Messrs. Allcock and Co., who are sending men to fit it up in the saloon. The painting and decorating of the building was done by Mr Winlove’s staff, and Mr T. Slatford did the plumbing work. The two shops erected for Miss Hurley are also practically complete, and Mr Reed, stationer, moved into one of them at the beginning of the week. They are both fine, roomy shops, and there are several living rooms in the building. We understand that the other has been taken by Mr O’Reilly, who will open it as a bootshop.
