MEN’S MATCH.

WAIPUKURAU v. ONGA ONGA. This match was played at the conclusion of the ladies’ match, Waipukurau winning by three goals to nil. The local men were without the services of Pack and Bailey. Their places were taken by W. Lomas and A. Chambers, and the substitutes proved themselves worthy of their inclusion, Chambers on one occasion saving in really good style. Young, in the back, played a really good game. Amongst the half backs, Stoddart played a fine game. The other half-backs must learn to intercept rushes and thus reduce chances of wing forwards gettiug through. Barrie yesterday spoilt a somewhat good display by waiting for his man. Amongst the forwards, Pirie is the most useful man and played for the team. Chilwell, Westbrooke, and Bone gave the visitors a lot of trouble. Pirie, Westbrooke, and Chilwell scored for the home team. For the losers, Wolstenholme, in goal, saved a lot of-hot .shots. This player is one of the best sports in the Waipawa Sub-Association matches. Amongst the backs Goughian was the surest although Moran should develop into a most serviceable man if he could learn to feed his forwards. Of the half-backs Rickey was the most prominent, his hitting being easily the most serviceable. Vesty lost chances by not getting the ball away cleaner to his wing. Orr played a good game, but was handicapped by having a forward like Pirie on his wing. Of the forwards Bibby played the best. He is one of the finest players in the competition, but he should learn to place his forwards. When a wing forward starts out on a rush for the defending goal he should take a glance and see where his comrades are. It often pays a wing to; get rid of the ball at Hie half-way line sooner than run into a back with a knowledge of the game, for it is ten chances to one that his man will block. W. Bowling, when he learns to keep his place, will be a great player. Devine and Rhodes seem to have lost their dash, and are content to wait for chances.

KAIKORA v. WAIPAWA FIRE BRIGADE.

This match was played at Waipawa, and, contrary to expectations, the visitors won by two ..goals to nil.
