To-morrow afternoon Mr Adam King will entertain the inmates of the Hospital with selections on Edison’s phonograph. The erection of the new railway station is being pushed on, and splendid progress has been made this week. The framework of the main part of the building is complete, and the rusticating is now being’ put on. When the portion the carpenters are now at work on is complete, the old station will be removed, and the second part of the new building, an additional forty feet, will be commenced. At the annual distribution of prizes at St. Andrew’s School last evening the Rev. J. Pattison announced that in a short time they contemplated putting the question of enlarging the Sunday School before the congregation. It was likely that it would be necessary, on account of the increased attendance to lengthen the building twelve , feet and also add a wing [on the left side five feet in width.

The Hawke’s Bay Land Board at its meeting yesterday granted the transfer of section 4, block 15, from H. Wells to H. and I. Poynter. Mr W. Rice, of Ouga Onga, has sold the goodwill of his farm to Mr A. Englebretson, of Hastings. The area of the land is 895 acres and the selling price was £l6OO.

At the euchre party to be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday night a number of prizes are to be competed for. Several songs and instrumental selections will be given, and refreshments will be

provided. On Wednesday evening the public of Waipukurau will entertain Mr P. H. .Jolley, who for many years was a resident or this town, at a social gathering in the Town Hall, when opportunity will be taken to make a presentation. Mr W. A. Chambers will preside.

The Salvation Army’s company, the Riroriros, are sbowmg for one night only at Waipawa, on the 19th. The Riroriros are composed chiefly of children from the Army Girls’ Home in Auckland, and are said to be very clever performers of action and character songs, besides using the handbells and fairy glasses with good effect. Altogether the show promises to be a very good one.

Particn'a-’s of the horses to be sold by the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Co-operative Association, on account of Mr J. W. Harding, Mt. Vernon, at the Tavistock yards on Wednesday next appear in an advertisement on our sixth page.

The Takapau Hotel is rapidly approaching completion, the last brick of the chimneys having been laid on Thursday. It is expected that the ground floorwill be ready for occupation by the end of the month.

The report which appeared recently that Mr Merton, who was previously stated to be getting better, had again become worse, and would be unable to leave the Hospital until two operations had been performed, is incorrect. MrMerton continues to make good progress and it is hoped will be able to leave the institution soon, but will return again, to undergo an operation for appendicitis. The Rev. R. McNaughton will conduct the services at St. Andrew’s Church to-morrow. The subject of his addresses appears in an advertisement. The Rev. J. Pattison is about to conduct a week’s mission at the Napier Congregational Church. O D We have received a copy of the Dannevirke High School magazine. -This little periodical is neatly got up, and contains interesting accounts of the school’s proceedings. This issue has an account of a trip to Palmerston, also a boys’ and a girls’ column, and other departments of interest to High School scholars and their friends.
