A PIRATE’S HOARD.
S That the days of romance are not dead is proved by the report that Captain Small is about to make a second voyage to the P Spanish Main ” in search of a treasure of gold estimated at nearbf a quarter of a -million pounds, said to have been buried in one of its islands a century or so ago, by the famous pirate Latrobe. About thirty years ago, so runs the story, a doctor named Davidson had for patient during a vovage from Hawaii to San Francisco, an old sailor, who confided to him a singular story. While the seaman was a lad, in 1808, his vessel was captured by Latrobe, who was afterwards caught and executed in Jamaica. Before he died, however, he told the lad the story of a great treasure he had buried in one of the many islands which stud the Caribbean Sea ; and, what was more to the point, gave into his custody papers indicating the precise spot where the gokl was to be found. Equipped with this information, Captain Small is said to be about to make his second attempt to find the pirate’s : and it is to be hoped that the second attempt will be more successful than the first, which was one sequence of disasters. — “Weeklv Scotsman.”
