HOCKEY.
The match between Waipawa a .d Napier, played at Napier y sterday, was won by Waipawa, J goals to 4. The game was a ■ ery fast one, and play in the secaid half was very exciting, the iirst spell having ended with a score of three goals each. Waipawa, who played a good combined game, managed to get a lead of two goals early in the second spell, and, though Napier worked hard, they were only able to reduce it by one goal. Heale obtained all four of Napier’s goals, |and for the visitors, Wilson scored three goals and Pirie and Wills one each. The referees were Messrs Bell and Thomas.
The Waipukurau v. Waipawa Ladies’ match, played on the local ground yesterday, resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. Both teams displayed greatly improved form since their previous match, and the game became very exciting towards the end. Play was fairly even during the first spell, but the home team had rather the best of the second half. The referees were Messrs F. Stoddart and Parkin. At Napier yesterday, Hastings defeated Danneyirke by 3 goals to 1.
