THE CARE OF THE CHICKS.
Chicks should not be left in the incubator for more than twentyfour hours after they are hatched. The incubator is for hatching eggs and not for brooding chicks. It cannot well be used for a brooder for a long time. When the chicks are removed to the brooder they should be confined in the hover chamber till the following day that they may gradually become accustomed to the lower temperature and also to
the inequalities of temperature. The following morning they may be allowed to go out for a little while, if the weather is warm, but they must be watched to see that they do not “ bunch ” outside the hover. Whether or not they will'do this depends on the weather conditions. The danger of bunching is much greater on a sunshiny day than on a cloudy day, as the chicks are attracted by the bright sunshine. They may- be caught at the same time by a cold wind and chilled.
